This module is compatible with pairing with a CPU baseplate, connecting via the expansion port of the CPU baseplate. With the utilization of IC693CHS398, a higher number of I/O modules can be controlled by the Central Processing Unit (CPU) module. Depending on the CPU type being used, the number of expansion baseplates allowed, such as the IC693CHS398, per system varies specifically, up to 4 expansion baseplates at a time with any of the CPU 331, 340, and 341 and the up to 7 expansion baseplates at a time with CPU 350 and higher. The IC693CHS398 comes with Five (5) I/O slots that are also compatible with the installation of option modules. These slots are unique in size which prevents improper installation of modules.
This baseplate requires a dedicated power supply module to operate. The power supply is mounted via the dedicated Power supply slot located on the left side of the hardware. An expansion baseplate port is also available on the rightmost side of the hardware where additional expansion baseplates can be connected. The IC693CHS398 measures 10.43 x 5.12 x 5.59 in. (W x H x D) with an internal power requirement of 170 mA at 5VDC. Up to a total of 50 feet or 15 meters of interconnecting cable is allowed along the expansion system to ensure continuous communication. This hardware does not support the installation of PCM, ADC, Bus Expansion Module (BEM), and CMM311 modules.
The IC693CHS398 baseplate is manufactured by GE Fanuc as part of Series 90-30 and it is an expansion baseplate. It is made to serve as part of a large-scale industrial control system. The IC693CHS398 expansion baseplate must always connect to the CPU baseplate in a PLC, but it can only connect to 1 CPU baseplate in total. However, it can connect to more than 1 additional expansion baseplate at a time.
The total number of expansion baseplates that the GE Fanuc Series 90-30 IC693CHS398 expansion baseplate can connect to at a time depends on the type of CPU. CPU 331, 340, and 341 CPUs can support up to 4 expansion baseplates at a time, and the CPUs with numbers 350 or higher can support as many as 7 expansion baseplates at a time. For safety, the IC693CHS398 expansion baseplate and all the other expansion baseplates in a system must be installed with a common ground. The IC693CHS398 expansion baseplate has 5 slots for installing I/O modules and it connects to other baseplates with its 25-pin D-type female I/O expansion connector on its far right edge.
